Academics –  Rules and regulations 

Timings

The college will function from 9 am to 4 pm for all semesters, with one hour break from 12 noon to 1 pm for lunch. On Fridays the after noon sessions will starts at 2pm. Saturdays and Sundays are usually holidays for the college.

Dress code

All students must dress neatly. When they come to laboratories and workshops, they would wear blue pants and slacks. In addition, they have to wear shoes. Loose chappals and the like will not be permitted.

Identity card

An identity card with photograph will be issued to all students. Students must carry the same always when they come to the college and must produce the same on inspection.

Attendance and leave regulations

Students are expected to attend all classes without fail. If for unavoidable reasons, leave of absence is required, permission from competent authority should be taken as given under. Application for ordinary leave should be submitted to the group adviser concerned who is competent to sanction leave up to a maximum of 3 days at a time. For periods beyond three days at a time, the Heads of Departments will be sanctioning authority. Applications for ordinary leave will be considered only if submitted not later than three days from the date of  return from leave. 

Medical leave 

Students can apply to the Head of Department through the Group Adviser for leave on medical grounds, within three days of working days of returning to the college after the leave. A medical certificate should be attached with the application. The students should keep medical leave application duly sanctioned. In the event of a student falling short of attendance at the end of a semester, condonation of shortage of attendance will be recommended only if they produce record to prove that leave had been applied for and granted in time. 

Duty leave 

Students are eligible for duty leave on recommendation from the concerned authority if they perform certain kinds of duty for the college like representing the college in sports and games and involving in the college union and association activities. Duty leave can be recommended only by the faculty members who are authorized to do so. Duty leave should be submitted to the Principal, or the designated authority, preferably before the duty is performed or soon after returning from duty, but not later than three working days. However, for exceptional cases, such as representing University / State Athletic events, prior permission of the Principal should be obtained to get duty leave in excess of 10%.

 Guidelines regarding educational tour of students

1. The students may go on one educational tour preferably after the fourth semester course and submit a tour report.

2. The tour proposals should reach the office (Academic Section) at least 3 weeks before the commencement of the tour.

3. The tour may be conducted during the vacation or on holidays taking not more than 5 working days combined with the vacation/holidays, if required. (The total distance to be traveled should not exceed 2000 kilometers.)

4. The tour period shall be considered as  part of the working periods of a semester.

5. Details of Industries/Technical/Research Organizations proposed to be visited should be indicated in the tour program.

6. For each group of 20 students one staff should accompany the students. If girl students are participating the tour, one lady staff member should accompany the team.

7. If SC/ST students are participating in the study tour, their name should be specified clearly.

8. Tour programs duly signed and recommended by HOD will only be considered.

9. Written consent of the parent is essential for all students who participate in the tour.

10. The designation of the escorting staff members should be indicated.

11. The distance, date of travel, mode of travel, boarding and lodging details etc. should be clearly indicated in the tour programme.

 

The College Union

The college has a student's union. The objectives of the college union are

1. to train the students of the college in the duties, responsibilities and rights of citizenship.

2. to promote opportunities for the development of character, leadership, efficiency, knowledge and the spirit of service among the students.

3. to encourage sports, arts and other cultural, educational and recreational activities which are incidental and conductive to the above objectives.

4. to work for the union, the term of which is generally one year from the date from which the union assumes office or till the date of the election to the union in the subsequent year.

The union has a union council comprising of the following office bearers.

1. The president of the union - Principal of the college (ex-officio)

2. The staff adviser nominated by the President

3. The Chairman

4. The Vice- Chairman

5. The General Secretary

6. Two Lady Representatives

7. The Counselor / Counselors to the Kerala University

8. The Secretary, Arts Club

9. The Chief Student Editor of the College Magazine.

10. The General Captain of Sports and Games.

11. The Secretaries of the various sectional Associations

12. One representative from every class (year wise).

The office of the Vice Chairman shall be reserved for lady students. The offices (2) to (9) given above shall be filled by the election by all students of the college. The offices(10) and (11) by election by the students of the particular association or class as the case may be.

There shall be an Executive Committee for the union as approved by the Kerala University.
