The Department of Information Technology at Government Engineering College, Bartonhill was established in the academic year 1999, offering a four year B.Tech. course in Information Technology. M.Tech. Course in Information Technology with specialization in Network Engineering commenced from the academic year 2011-2012.

All the students for B.Tech course are allotted from among the top ranked students of Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination. Many of the students bagged top ranks in the Kerala University. Most of the students passed out from the department are working in top ranked international and multinational companies.  Lots of students from the department got selection for PG programmes in Indian Institute of Technologies and top ranked foreign universities.

The department takes special efforts to impart technical knowledge to the students. The students are focused with the use of conceptual understanding of core domain area in Computing as well as enhanced programming skills disseminating their analytical abilities. The faculties of our department are well qualified and have rich knowledge in their subjects. Many of the faculty members obtained higher qualifications from Indian Institute of Technologies and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
