

The department of electrical & electronics engineering in Government Engineering College Barton Hill, was founded in the year 2007, with an undergraduate (B. Tech) programme under the University of Kerala, with an intake of 60 students. In 2013, an M. Tech programme in Power System and Control was started. M. Tech programme in Power Electronics and Drives was started in 2020. From 2015 onward all the academic programmes are affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). The programme curriculum is designed to provide engineering graduates with adequate knowledge and skills required for a successful career in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Since its inception, the department has produced graduates in electrical & electronics engineering, with many topping the University examinations, and later placed in reputed National and International companies through the campus placement drive of the Career Guidance and Placement Unit of the college. Several students pursue PG programs in IITs, NITs, IIMs and top-ranked foreign universities.
The department takes special efforts to impart value-added technical education to the students. The M. Tech. programme in Power Systems and Control is aimed at training the students in the latest developments in the field of Power Systems, with due importance to control and operation of smart grid technology.
The M. Tech programme in Power Electronics and Drives is designed to impart sound fundamentals and advanced techniques in solid-state power processing technologies. The department also gives emphasis to extracurricular activities of the students by training them for improving their leadership qualities, presentation skills, organising skills etc, from the entry level itself.
